New Light Bulb Laws will save you money
The Federal Government is, for once, saving us money! It has announced a new plan to phase out all standard light globes in homes within the new few years. This move is not only amazing for the enviornment but it will also keep money in your pocket.
What are they doing?
The Australian Federal Government has finally started making moves to cut our huge greenhouse gas emissions and, to their credit, they have made a big one. This is a brave decision that will have many light bulb industries in trouble but it will, however, cut pollution by a big number.
The plan is to phase out regular light bulbs and replace them with the new and improved version - in particular the compact fluorescent bulbs which save a lot on electricity.
How good are these bulbs?
A regular light globe in Australia will cost you about 50 cents whereas the compact fluorescent bulbs will cost you about $5.00. This is a big initial difference. However, the latter runs on 80% less electricity and produces the same amount of light. Not only that but the globe lasts for 10 times as long.
That means that at the end of the month you won’t see so much going to the bill man.
The Advertiser Newspaper reported this story and quoted Minister Turnbull on the HUGE benefits of this move:
“If the whole world switches to these bulbs today, we would reduce our consumption of electricity by an amount equal to five times Australia’s annual consumption of electricity.”
Considering Australia is one of the worst polluters in the western world this is a very big deal.
